As an educator and director, Kristin has had the opportunity to lead acting intensives across the country and direct performers at every level, from children’s theater through Juilliard.
She takes inspiration from her students, and meets them where they are in their creative development. There is no "one way" into a piece, and it's a special joy watching her class discover all the unique ways into a story, both within themselves, and as they observe their friends. Kristin provides a fun, safe, creative, and collaborative environment for every student, which will always yield great work.
MY TEACHING PHILOSOPHY
My mother founded a youth theater company when I was 9, so teaching and working with children in the arts is a part of my DNA. I find that once children understand both what they're saying and the circumstances, they easily let their imaginations run with the scene/song, and become specific in their choices. That's why my foundation for teaching starts with text analysis; a youth appropriate version of scoring and moment-to-moment work. From there, I like to work on character development through improv exercises and light movement, and then finding the action in their "ACTing". Returning to the scene or song becomes easier with our newfound tools. We start to understand the arc of a piece and how we fit in to serve the whole of the story.
